Description:The DMK leaders want to follow the same example by burying Karunanidhi. We want a separate country for southern India. Periyar, the founder of Dravidian movement, was an atheist. The DMK secured 15 Assembly seats and two parliamentary seats. After that Annadurai put the independent state agenda on the backburner. But historical records point to their link with a form of Shaivite belief and also wearer of sacred thread, hinting at a past Brahmanical connection. Periyar feared that the independent India will be under the rule of Brahmins, hence he considered the Independence Day as a mourning day.
